A 19-year-old British backpacker was abducted, raped and robbed by a gang of bikers in Thailand.
The young British woman was attacked as she walked to a shop in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Kanchanaburi district, west of Bangkok, according to local media.
Reportedly, the victim had dinner at a restaurant on the Nanachart Road in Kanchanaburi on Monday night with friends. The woman is then said to have walked to a shop alone at 1:30 am Tuesday, when a group of motorcyclists appeared on the street and grabbed her and rode off.
The teenager then told the police that the bikers raped her and stole her valuables. Afterwards, they dumped her at a market in Mueang district.
Police Major General Kamolsanti Klanbus, chief of Kanchanaburi police, has reported that two men have came forward and confessed to raping a 19-year-old Bristish backpacker.
Furthermore, CCTV footage led to the arrest of two young men, who then admitted raping the teenager, police have said.
The victim has already returned to UK but the case is still on-going. On the other hand, the police have not yet revealed further details about the incident for it’s too sensitive.
Thailand’s Foreign Office told the public that they’re ready to provide consular assistance to the British backpacker.
If this incident happens again, the bulk of British backpackers to Thailand every year will be reduced; thus affecting the overall tourism trade of the country. The Thai government should act on this immediately, following this painful predicament encountered by the young British. And justice is what the teenager and her family need at the moment.
Let’s hope that justice will be duly served to them soon.
